Metabolic Kitchen and Alumni Metabolic Dining Room
The Metabolic Kitchen is equipped for the design of all manners of meal preparation. The kitchen and food storage area are fully equipped and suitable for controlled feeding studies. The dining room contains a dining area that can serve up to 20 research participants, a lounge area for research study participants, a computer station with internet access and a large-screen TV. Registered dieticians are on hand, and private rooms for individual and group nutritional counseling sessions are also available as are computerized dietary analyses. Mass Spectrometry Laboratory

The HMRU Mass Spectrometry Laboratories contain 2 mass spectrometers, providing the flexibility to run samples by Shimadzu, GC-MS and LC-MS. The HMRU also has a graphite furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The AAS is used to measure mineral content of samples. Please contact us for more information.

Overnight Studies

The HMRU contains accommodations for the overnight housing of subjects; with hospital-style beds, a TV set and DVD player, and all the amenities necessary for a comfortable overnight stay. Equipment and expertise are available in the HMRU for the drawing of blood from subjects, and the HMRU has several phlebotomists at hand who can assist with all related procedures. Nell I. Mondy Laboratory for Human Performance

The Nell I. Mondy Laboratory for Human Performance is well equipped for the assessment of all aspects of physical performance. Dr. Mondy received her PhD in 1953 from the Division. The Laboratory contains facilities to test energy expenditure and oxygen consumption by indirect calorimetry. Please contact us for fees. |

Body Composition Laboratory

The Body Composition Laboratories contain facilities to assess body fat, fat-free mass and bone mineral content by densitometry and anthropometry. The Body Composition Laboratories possess examination rooms, a Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometer (DXA) instrument and a Bod-Pod. Anthropometric measurements by skin folds and a water displacement tank for underwater weight determination are also available. |

Clinical Chemistry and Biochemistry Research Laboratory
The clinical chemistry laboratory is designed for the analysis of biological samples from research subjects. The biochemical research laboratory’s purpose is to conduct basic nutritional biochemistry research that supports studies on human nutrition and metabolism. Among the equipment available for use is the IMMULITE 2000 Immunoassay system, the Random Access ATAC 8000 Chemistry System (chemical analyzer which provides in vitro diagnostic testing) and the TECAN SpectraFluor Fluorescence and Absorbance Plate Reader and resources needed for standard ELISA's.. Hematology equipment which is available include a Coulter hematology analyzer, and a ZPP Hematofluorometer.
